Giant
M&Ms, are they right?![]() |
So what has the world come to, sure I've seen some interesting ideas in the candy world, but this one really threw me off. Giant M&Ms. Something seems a little off, and I want to know what it is. Sure the package is a little bigger, but this implies that the M&Ms are bigger, and that doesn't sit well with me. Why, you ask, what could be wrong with bigger M&Ms? Well, when it comes to regular ones, nothing. The more the merrier. I'd be the last man in the world to complain about the size of a treat. Well actually I'd be the first, that's my thing, but if it's good, why not. What freaked me out about this treat is the peanut M&Ms, something about this didn't seem natural. Mainly, does this mean that they’re using giant peanuts? Is there some kind of genetically altered peanut that some day may take over the world? I decided I'd get to the bottom of this. I don't want the world to be run by peanuts, not when they're so much fun to eat. So let's find out why the new M&Ms are so darn big. |
The first task I set for myself was to be sure that they were substantially bigger than the others. I mean, sure it says so on the pack, but I needed a reason to go out and buy more candy and this seemed as good as any other. With the purchase of another pack I realized that in fact these Shrek M&Ms are almost twice the size. Again, this isn't a problem with me at all; I like the idea that I'm
getting twice the treat. The real issue is what makes it so big. Well,
I figured the only way to truly find out was to cut them open; expose
this giant peanut to the world. Well if you were looking for something
astonishing or impressive you're probably out of luck. |

As it turns out, they just doubled up on the chocolate; no freak peanuts, no world domination, nothing. What do I think about this? To be honest it messes with the nice balance of nut to chocolate that I love about M&Ms. I find it interesting that candy companies are willing to change recipes that they keep so secret for the sake of a promotion. These things aren't bad, but they aren’t better than the original. |
