Good for you.

On of the new trends in candy is to create a candy that's better for you. Well we here at Candy Critic don't worry about health, if we did we would call it Fruit Critic. Instead we are most concerned about taste, being healthy is not a big concern at all. Having said that we are not against healthy food, just against healthy food that taste bad. So in our ever growing quest to bring you the best in candy, we will take a look at some of the treats out there, that claim to be healthy as well as tasty.

To start we will look at two "healthy" treats and compare them to similar treats that do not claim to be good for you.

First: Startburst V.S. Body Smart Creamy Fruit Chews

The Treats
The look

Winner: The color is a little brighter.

Loser: They don't look bad just dull.

The Texture Loser: Sticks to the teeth. Winner: Great for getting Starbust off your teeth.
The Taste Tie: They have a great tangy taste. Tie: Creamy and smooth I didn't even mind the banana flavor.
The Results I would have to say that it's a tie. They're both similar but very different when it comes to taste. Take it from somebody who just ate a bunch of both, if you eat too many they both hurt your jaw.

Second: Sugar Free Gummy Worms V.S. Regular Gummy Worms

The Treats

Sugar Free

Sugar Filled

The Look Loser: Dull in color they just don't have the gross look. Winner: Slimy and more worm like.
The Texture Loser: These things are hard and gross.

Winner: Smooth and slimy just perfect.

The Taste Loser: No flavor at all nothing, why even bother. Winner: Juicy and yummy as always.
The Results Gummy worms need sugar, this is a fact, I know that some people can't have sugar, my condolences.

Second, I tried a couple of bars that claim to be part of a nutritious diet. In true form I'm not interested in what it does for you or how good for you it is, taste is what I look for. So come along and see what nutrition means to us here at candy critic.

The Power Bar is not that bad, it by no means taste like a chocolate bar but instead taste like a bitter sweet chocolate. It's also extremely chewy, so chewy that it takes several minutes to get down one bite. The after taste was a little weird, it seemed to coat my mouth with some weird filmy feeling. This bar was not that bad but not something I would want to eat everyday.

Well I didn't taste peanuts and I didn't taste chocolate in fact as taste goes this bar was lacking a bit. It shows a caramel toping on the package and I really didn't taste that. I think that the best way to describe the taste has to be a granola bar, but even that flavor wasn't that strong. The other thing had to be the texture, it was chewy, I'm talking hurt my jaw chewy. This bar needs something to give it a little bit more flavor something strong.

Eating healthy and sugar free is a lifestyle, and it sure is not mine. If you want to eat healthy it's important that you don't fool yourself by eating fake candy, eat some trail mix or some fruit. With some exceptions I found that sugar, fat and strange chemicals are what make candy, the best snack in the world.
