Selling out the chocolate

One day while taking a walk through my local candy store I came across some Sponge Bob Squarepants chocolate bars. I sat there and wondered, is it really worth a few bucks extra just to have your favorite characters on it? Well that all depends on how much you like that particular character.

I'm a huge Sponge Bob fan so I grabbed a bunch of the bars, I've eaten some of them and they're OK, not that high quality but OK. The best part has to be the great labels. In fact I still have some sitting around just because I think the label is kinda boss.

I noticed other bars as well, ones that have funny little gag labels instead of a licensed character, these make great gag gifts but how many Silly CD's bars can one man endure (see garbage pail kids). These things really can't be for regular treating, right?

Licensing has been in the candy business forever and often great treats will grab a popular character and mutate their treats in their likeness. These bars seem pretty harmless but I think you should try harder to make the treat fit the character. Here's a list of some of my ideas:

Sponge Bob Aero Bar

Stretch Armstrong Curly Wurly

Terms of Endearment Tear Jerkers

Days of our Lives Thrills

Jack the Ripper Pez

Clock Work Orange Dairy Milk with Nuts.

Hey if your going to try to sell something with candy make it interesting. Maybe you need more than a fancy wrapper with a cool design.
