Dona Jimena
Dark chocolate and almonds, it's an interesting
combination and the folks at Dona Jimena aren't the first to ever
make it happen. In fact I'm pretty sure that many other companies
have made dark chocolate covered almonds, and in many cases they're
very yummy. So what makes these any different than other dark chocolate
covered almonds you ask?
Well the dark chocolate in these is really dark.
In fact it's one of the darkest, most bitter chocolates I've ever
tasted with almonds. It's that kind of dark chocolate that you don't
just taste but your whole mouth seems to react to the extreme bitterness.
The thing is I'm not really sure what role the almonds play in this
particular treat.
I think as far as flavour goes this treat is really
killed by the dark chocolate flavour. One of my favourite things
about chocolate covered almonds is the nice blend of flavours between
the chocolate and the almonds, but in this case the chocolate is
just too strong. The almonds however do give a really nice texture
to this treat, so if you don't mind not really tasting the almonds
but having a dark chocolate treat with a nice crunch this could
be right up your alley. The powder on the outside didn't really
have much affect for me, but it did make them look kind of cool.
