Reese Peanut Butter Cups "with caramel"

Somebody should just kick me in the head. Really, I'm begging for it. I am one of the biggest critics about how the candy industry just keeps making the same candy with the same “new flavours” as every other candy, but here I am reviewing another. Here’s what I picture happened in the meeting where these were developed…

Guy 01: Hey, people like peanut butter cups a lot.

Guy 02: People like caramel a lot.

Guy 01 trips and his cup lands in Guy 02's caramel.

Guy 01: You got caramel all over my peanut butter cup!

Guy 02: You got your peanut butter cup in my caramel!

… or something to that respect.

Having said all that, what do I think of these? Well, I don't think the caramel is really necessary. It doesn't improve the cups at all. The great thing about peanut butter and chocolate is the sweet and savory combination. These are a little too sweet for my liking and the caramel flavour really isn't strong enough. I couldn't actually taste the caramel until I popped a whole cup in my mouth and really searched for it.

It's not that I think this mix is bad. It does taste different, but it just doesn't taste as good as the plain old cups. I'm not sure who will give out first – will the candy companies stop making these kinds of treats or will I give up eating them?
